Pvt Murvin R. Hughes enlisted in Buffalo, New York on 16 June 1941.

He was wounded in action in France on 13 August 1944, but had written his parents that he had returned to combat duty.

He died in an Army hospital in France from wounds, sustained on the same day.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Limey, France.

His brother, Victor C. Hughes, was killed in action on 13 July 1944 and is buried at Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer in France.
