More information

Pvt Oliver G. Omdahl enlisted at Fort Snelling, Minnesota on 29 February 1944.

He was stationed at Camp Blanding, Florida. He later wrote from Fort Meade, Maryland to his sister, Mabel, "Well I really know when I am going now. We are leaving at 2:30 from here. We don’t know where we are going but we do know we are going across. I sure do hate to leave here now."

Mabel received another letter, v-mail this time, from him on 5 November 1944. The letter stated that he was "Somewhere in France" and went on to say: "Received your letters yesterday and today and boy, was sure glad to hear from you. I just dropped a line home and let them know I am o.k. and then I told them I sent $35 home as I can’t use it here and so I gave it for a Christmas present."

He was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Limey, France.
