Pvt John W. Courtney was a taxi driver in Nelsonville before he enlisted in Clarksburg, West Virginia on 12 November 1943. He was sent overseas in July 1944.He was killed by artillery shell fragments to his buttock, hip, and loin.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
