Elvin R. Headland graduated from Rochester High School.

He enlisted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 8 July 1943.
He joined his unit from the 14th Replacement Depot on 21 December 1944.
According to the morning report of 4 January 1945, T/5 Headland, together with 43 enlisted men, went missing in action that day during an attack on Marvie in Belgium.

He died in Stalag X-B in Sandbostel, Germany where he initially was buried at the POW cemetery.
