2nd Lt John C. Nunlist graduated from Bacon High School, attended the University of Cincinnati for two years and was employed by his father, a civil-engineer with offices in the Traction Building. Later he worked at the Wright plant in Lockland.He volunteered for the Army of the United States at Fort Thomas Newport, Kentucky on 19 October 1942 and received training at Camp Blanding in Florida.
At the time of his death, his brother, Capt Paul F. Nunlist, served with the Army Air Corps in Alexandria, Louisiana, and Lt H. James Nunlist, was stationed in Hawaii.
2nd Lt Nunlist was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Molenhoek near Nijmegen in the Netherlands.
