More information
"On October 24th, news came to Madison that Raymond Dowd was missing in action. On October 30th, the telegram arrived that Ray had been killed in action in Holland. Ray was one of the youngest Madison boys in service although he had been in the Army for a year and a half.He was born in Madison, the son of Harold F. and the late Mabel Gerard Dowd. He attended Hand School and graduated from Hand High with the class of 1942. He was active in sports, baseball, football and basketball, but it was in golf that he was able to outshine most of his classmates. Not long after graduation he enlisted in the Army and was sent overseas in June of 1944 with an infantry glider division. He lived in Madison with his uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reuter."
