2nd Lt Carl H. Booth, Jr. graduated from Morristown High School. He was engaged in the poultry and egg business with his brother-in-law.

He enlisted in Newark, New Jersey on 12 December 1940, and was assigned to an anti-tank unit at Fort Dix. He was promoted to corporal and remained at Fort Dix until February 1942 when he transferred to the Army Air Force.

He was married on 7 February 1942 with Eleanor C. Scott.

He was commissioned a second lieutenant on 18 February 1943 and as a navigator at the Army Air Field School in Hondo, Texas. He was sent overseas in September 1943.

The airplane was attacked by enemy fighters. Six crew members survived and were taken prisoner, four men were killed.
