Gerald Gannon attended high school for four years and worked in a machine shop.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The airplane was shot down by enemy fighters. Nine crew members were killed and were buried initially on Lingwedel Cemetery, Germany on 31 March 1944. Only Sgt Jerome J. Heimer survived and was taken prisoner.
