2nd Lt Edward S. Church attended college when he joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in New York City, New York on 15 July 1942.

The airplane was shot down by enemy fighters. Nine crew members were killed and were buried initially in Lingwedel Cemetery, Germany on 31 March 1944. Only Sgt Jerome J. Heimer survived and was taken prisoner.
