Robert G. Ames joined the Air Corps of the Regular Army in Lubbock, Texas on 20 October 1941.The airplane was attacked by enemy fighters. It crashed just off shore of Tossens, Germany. Five crew members survived and were taken prisoner. Five men were killed. They were initially buried at the cemetery of Bad Zwischenahn, Germany.
