Pfc William M. Hart worked on a farm before he enlisted at Fort McPherson Atlanta, Georgia on 29 October 1942.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments in the chest.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Grand-Failly, France.
