Pvt William E. Ochs attended high school for four years and was employed at the Federal Mining and Smelting Company before he enlisted at Fort Lewis, Washington on 29 April 1944. He was sent overseas in December 1944.

He died from artillery shell fragments in his neck and abdomen.
