Pfc William E. Hargus graduated from Maycomb High School in January 1944.He enlisted at Fort Sill, Oklahoma on 2 March 1944 and was sent overseas on 12 January 1945.
He had been reported missing since 26 March 1945. His mother had previously written to his captain concerning the details of his disappearance and was that his boat overturned in the crossing of the Rhine. Although some of the men swam ashore and others were rescued by life boats, Pfc Hargus was not found.
