St/Sgt Walter R. Jordan attended Kenmore High School where he was an all-round athlete and boxing champion. He was employed at the All States Freight Co.He enlisted in Akron, Ohio on 22 October 1942.
"We have just taken a town," he once wrote. "We had 900 yards of open field to cross. I never in my life saw so much nerve. We fired from the hip. We couldn't see anyone, but the lead was sure coming our way. Many boys got hit. I stopped and gave first aid to a boy who got it in the neck."
