Pvt Du Wayne A. Erickson enlisted on 9 July 1943, and received his primary training at Fort McClennan, Alabama. He was then assigned to the City College of Los Angeles where he graduated as an engineer. A few days before he was to receive his commission as an officer, the school closed and he was transferred to the infantry at Camp Roberts, California. He received his last training at Camp Butner, North Carolina.
