Pvt John E. Schneidmiller attended high school for four years and was a bus driver before he enlisted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 4 March 1944.

He was killed by artillery shell fragments.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Andilly, France.
