2nd Lt Frederick G. Spence graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1939.An Me 109 came in at 1 o'clock low and sprayed the front of the aircraft with 20mm shells, hitting the wing tanks. The right wing and tanks began to burn.
Two crew members were taken prisoner, eight were killed.
