2nd Lt Kenneth W. Newkirk graduated from Van Nuys High School and was employed at Lockheed.

He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve as an aviation cadet in Santa Ana, California on 19 March 1943.

The aircraft was broken in two by collision with A/C 42-31066 which fell on it after being hit by flak. Both aircraft went down in flames.
