T/Sgt Alvin H. Petteys graduated from Greenwich Central High School in 1934 and he was employed on his father's farm before he enlisted in Albany, New York on 3 August 1942.

The aircraft was broken in two by collision with A/C 42-31066 which fell on it after being hit by flak. Both aircraft went down in flames.

T/Sgt Petteys is remembered at Greenwich Cemetery in Greenwich, Washington County, New York with a memorial marker.
