More information

T/Sgt George M. Edgar graduated from Waukegan Township High School.

He joined the Air Corps of the Regular Army in Chicago, Illinois on 25 November 1940. He was an actor before he joined the army.

The airplane was shot down by enemy fighters over the target. Two crew members were killed, eight men were taken prisoner.

According to surviving crew members, T/Sgt Edgar was badly wounded and they did not know whether he was dead or alive. Because of the spreading fire, they had to leave the plane before they could investigate.

After the crash his body was found in the airplane. He was initially buried at the POW Cemetery in Dallgow-Döberitz on 27 June 1944. Late November, begin December 1946, his remains were disinterred and evacuated to Ardennes.
