T/Sgt Samuel W. Flatter graduated from Pitchin High School and was employed at Ohio Steel Foundry.

He enlisted on 8 June 1942 and was sent overseas in June 1943.

Went into a steep dive as the result of direct rocket hits in the nose from Fw 190s. It pulled out to a shallow incline and three parachutes were seen emerging from the plane. The plane then went into a steep dive and the eyewitnesses believe they saw the crash through ground haze at Bolbec, France.
He was buried at Saint-Cheron Chartres France.

T/Sgt Flatter was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of St. André, France.
