More information

1st Lt Daniel J. Mangan graduated from Gonzaga High School in 1942.

A/C 42-38123 went down due to the electrical system being on fire, causing all engines to fail. All crew members, except for Daniel J. Mangan, bailed out. Eight men survived. T/Sgt Albert Huff (Top Turret Gunner) was KIA, supposedly because his chute failed to open. Surviving crew member reports indicate that 1st Lt Mangan stayed with the plane, trying to save it. He was killed in the crash.
