S/Sgt Arthur W. Wardell was a mechanic.He enlisted at Fort Fay, Governors Island, New York.
The aircraft was attacked on the route out from the target by enemy aircraft which caused a fire. It was last seen, getting in a spin.
Three crew members survived and were taken prisoner, seven were killed. They were initially buried at the Prisoner's Cemetery in Lingen, Germany.
