S/Sgt Michael Semerski joined the Army Air Corps on 20 August 1942 at Fort Jay, New York.The aircraft was attacked on the route out from the target by enemy aircraft which caused a fire. It was last seen, getting in a spin.
Three crew members survived and were taken prisoner, seven were killed. They were initially buried at the Prisoner's Cemetery in Lingen, Germany.
