Lt Seibel was a passenger on board of the C-47, serialnumber 42-100672. The plane, with 18 paratroopers, sustained a hit from flak and six paratroopers were killed. The plane crash-landed six miles southeast of Eindhoven Airfield, but did not blow up.

When the flak burst hit the plane, he was struck in the chest.
