Cpl Joseph A. Findley graduated from Jefferson High School, Roanoke, Virginia in 1941.

He volunteered for the Army of the United States in Richmond, Viriginia on 23 September 1942.

Cpl Findley was a passenger on board of the C-47, serialnumber 42-100672. The plane, with 18 paratroopers, sustained a hit from flak and six paratroopers were killed. The plane crash-landed six miles southeast of Eindhoven Air Field, but did not blow up.
