David Lackey graduated from Noblesville High School in 1938 where he played foorball and was employed in the McMahon Market.

He enlisted in November 1941.

The aircraft was hit by German flak. When the plane left the formation, German fighters pounced and shot down the stricken plane.

None of the crew members survived the crash.

He had two brothers who were also in the service. Joseph Lackey had been in a hospital in Virginia for more than a year, and Donald Lackey received training in Syracuse, New York.
