2nd Lt Edwin S. Jacobsen graduated from Watervliet High School. He was employed at the arsenal.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Albany, New York on 15 December 1941.

His father died two months before his death. A brother, Hale V. Jacobsen, served in the Navy.

The airplane was shot down on the return flight at approximately 5:00 PM by Hauptmann Peter Jenne of JG 26/I, and exploded in midair.

Two crew members managed to bail out and were taken prisoner; eight were killed. Seven are remembered on the Walls of the Missing at Margraten, Sgt Homer C. Risner is remembered on the Walls of the Missing at the American Military Cemetery and Memorial at Cambridge, England.

Lt Jacobsen is remembered at Memory Gardens Cemetery and Memorial Park in Colonie, Albany County, New York.
