The aircraft was lost to an enemy attack with approximately 100 FW-190s and ME-109s which hit the lead and low squadrons of 13th C Group. This aircraft was last seen in the vicinity of 5300N-1200E at 1240 hours. When interrogated, none of the crews in the lead squadron recalled any particulars concerning the loss.

Nine crew members were killed. They were initially buried in a common grave at the municipal cemetery of Bartschendorf.

One crew member was taken prisoner.

Sgt Walterine A. Moseley's brother, 1st Lt Joe C. Moseley, is buried at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in the Philippines.
