The aircraft lost to an enemy attack with approximately 100 FW-190s and ME-109s which hit the lead and low squadrons of 13th C Group. This aircraft was last seen in the vicinity of 5300N-1200E at 1240 hours. When interrogated, none of the crews in the lead squadron recalled any particulars concerning the loss.

Nine crew members were killed. They were initially buried in a common grave at the municipal cemetery of Bartschendorf.

One crew member was taken prisoner.

Sgt Andrews is remembered with a memorial brick at the flagpole at the 390th museum in Tucson, Arizona.
