Sgt Eugene F. Miles volunteered for the Army of the United States in Chicago, Illinois on 23 September 1942. He was a sales clerk before he joined the army.

The aircraft lost to an enemy attack with approximately 100 FW-190's and ME-109's which hit the lead and low squadrons of 13th C Group. This aircraft was last seen in the vicinity of 5300N-1200E at 1240 hours. When interrogated, none of the crews in the lead squadron recalled any particulars concerning the loss.

Nine crew members were killed. They were initially buried in a common grave at the municipal cemetery of Bartschendorf.

One crew member was taken prisoner.
