S/Sgt Charles D. Stamiris attended Washington High School and East High School.He enlisted from Rochester, New York, on 20 August 1942.
At 1515, fighters with rocket guns attacked formation. Two B-17s, 2nd Lt Starnes ship and A/C 42-3328, collided in midair after one was hit by a rocket. Planes seemed to explode. Of A/C 415, nine crew members were killed. Their bodies were interred initially at the Protestant Cemetery in Burgsteinfurt, Germany. One crew member survived the crash.
