Pfc Michael A. Thomas was married to Lena Mesaris on 26 September 1931.

He enlisted at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland on 14 April 1944. He was sent overseas in December 1944.

His brother-in-law, Pfc Francis Mesaris, was killed in action in Italy on 26 January 1944. He is buried at Sicily-Rome American Cemetery.
