S/Sgt Charles Kuzupas enlisted in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania on 30 March 1942.

He was sent overseas in December 1943. He had been hospitalized in England from wounds received in Normandy on 18 July 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.
