Lt Col Miles L. Standish was working as a pharmacy student before he enlisted.

After his tank was hit by enemy fire Lt Col Standish came out of his tank wounded. As medics rushed to him a German officer with six German soldiers came out of a ditch on the side of the road. The officer drew his side arm and shot Lt Col Standish.
