More information

T/Sgt Charles E. Lindquist attended Burlington High School and was employed at Wells La Mont Smith before he enlisted at Camp Dodge, Iowa on 18 January 1943.

Approximately 40 enemy aircraft bounced group at about 1248 to 1258, 17 to 27 minutes after bombs away, in area between above coordinates. They attacked from the tail between 5 and 8 o’clock. They came in waves, but each of them appeared to single out an individual B-17 to attack. The airplane were hit by German fighters and their fire tore off the tail and left wing.

He was presumably killed when plane was attacked by fighters and he also went down with it. Other crew members did not see him bail out from the burning plane.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Grand-Failly, France.
