More information
The aircraft was damaged by intense flak over Bremerhaven. Over the North Sea the pilot reported the loss of two engines and that the loss of a 3rd engine was likely as the result of a fighter attack. It was last seen over the Island of Spiekeroog, Germany. In all probability, the airplane crashed or ditched in the North Sea.The entire crew was killed in action.
S/Sgt Robert E. Corum is remembered with a memorial marker at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger, Runnels County, Texas.
