More information

Frank E. Roth graduated from Lincoln High School in Nebraska in 1937 and from the University of Nebraska in 1941.

After enlisting, he trained at Fort Sam Houston. He was already overseas for three years and first served as platoon leader at the SHAEF headquarters in Paris and London.

Capt Roth was awarded the Silver Star Medal. The citation stated: For gallantry in action in the vicinity of ***, Germany. He led his company across the *** river defenses, taking high ground and his assigned objectives. To accomplish this mission he overcame insurmountable odds. He took a dozen enemy pillboxes and overcame three mine fields, extensive barbed wire and numerous booby traps. His gallant and aggressive leadership was directly responsible for the success of the mission which was accomplished with a minimum of casualties.

One picture was taken in high school in 1937. The other ones were taken at the university. On the other, he is posing in the uniform of the R.O.T.C.

Roth Court on Fort Knox Post is named in his honor.
