Pfc Robert V. Wynne attended the University of Texas at Austin, class of 1943.

He joined the Army Reserve in San Antonio, Texas on 3 August 1943.

He was wounded in action in France in November 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart a first time. After recovering in a hospital in England, he rejoined his unit.

The pictures show Pfc Robert Wynne who is just shot down by a sniper and the street like it looks today.

Pfc Wynne was hit in the neck and died instantly.

He was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Eisenach N°1 on 16 April 1945. After being disinterred he was evacuated to Margraten and buried in a temporary grave on 23 June 1945. After being disinterred again and after the cemetery was given a permanent status, he was given his final resting place on 21 December 1948.

He is remembered at the Eastland City Cemetery, Eastland County, Texas.

On 9 April 1999 a statue was inaugurated at the spot were Pfc Wynne was killed.
