S/Sgt Daniel D. Holliday Jr. was a chauffeur in civil life when he joined the National Guard on 25 November 1940.S/Sgt Holliday's company was mounting an attack about a mile northeast of Seelitz. S/Sgt Holliday was leading his squad toward their objective and had made good progress, being about 250 yards from it. At this point, a German rifleman fired from a ditch at a distance of 200 yards killing S/Sgt Holliday instantly.
