Cpl Allen F. Leland worked in a machine shop before he enlisted at Fort Devens, Massachusetts on 11 August 1943.He has a memorial stone at the Woodbine Cemetery in Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.
His brothers and sister Howard, Harold, Raymond and Dorothy died as babies.
