Pfc Robert G. Hughes graduated from Charles Loos School and was a mechanic with the Master Electric Company.

He enlisted in Columbus, Ohio on 17 August 1943 and was sent overseas in April 1944.
He was wounded in action on 25 August 1944 for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.
