John P. Vournakis managed the Weir-Cove Theater which was owned with his cousin.He enlisted in Huntington, West Virginia on 11 September 1941.
The airplane was shot down with a rocket by Feldwebel Mader in a BF-110G-2 of ZG 76/2. The airplane exploded in mid-air, killing the entire crew of ten men.
