F/O Carl F. Brunt enlisted in Rochester, New York on 28 August 1942.

Statement from MACR:
"This aircraft was hit by flak in the target area and was observed to leave formation immediately after bombs away. Aircraft was losing altitude rapidly. VHF conversation with other aircraft in formation stated that two engines were out due to being hit by flak and that attempt would be made to reach Switzerland. Pilot of A/C 577 (Lt. William D. Jacobs) heard this conversation. Aircraft was flying at about 18,000 feet on a heading of 200 degrees when last observed. Aircraft appeared to be under control. No chutes were observed. No further information is available."
