More information

S/Sgt Celestino L. Arniella graduated from Hillsborough High School before he enlisted in at Blanding, Florida on 3 March 1942. He had been overseas for two years.

As a member of the 401st Glider Infantry Regiment, he participated in the Normandy invasion, Operation Market Garden, the siege of Bastogne and the fighting in German and Austria.

When he was returning from an authorized leave, the civilian automobile in which he was a passenger failed to halt when challenged by an armed guard. The guard fired and hit Sgt Arniella in the chest, and though promptly rushed to an army hospital, he was dead on arrival.
