1st Lt James W. Reid attended Laurens High School and was employed by Laurens Mill Store.He enlisted at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina on 13 August 1941.
Lt Bird was seen by Lt. Carsrud's crew to dropout of formation, spin down and explode near Osnabruck. Cause was thought to be due to flak over the target. No chutes were seen, and no one was thought to have gotten out.
A/C shot down by ObLt. Friedrich Brock in Bf 109G-6 of JG 54/8 Dec 22, 1943 near Menslage, Germany. 3 KIA 6 POW.
Lt Reid is remembered at Laurens City Cemetery in Laurens, Laurens County, South Carolina.
