Sgt Clarence W. Cox enlisted at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina, on 23 March 1943.One report says that there were no fighters or flak, and the plane simply left the formation and was not seen again. Another report indicated that it was hit by a lone fighter plane, lost 2 engines, went into a spin and later exploded at a lower altitude.
Sgt Cox is remembered at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Abbeville, Abbeville County, South Carolina.
