S/Sgt John R. Palladina was employed at the Hercules Powder Company before he enlisted in Newark, New Jersey, on 20 June 1942.

Twenty-five to fifty Me-109s and FW-190s attacked the group just before the initial point of the bombing run.

The airplane exploded in the air and burned after the crash. One crew member survived and was taken prisoner. Eight men were killed.

S/Sgt Palladina didn't bail out.
