S/Sgt Arthur M. Torrey was a mechanic before he joined the Air Corps of the Regular Army in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania on 26 September 1941.The aircraft was attacked on the way to the target by a German fighter near Dunkirk and took direct hits in #4 engine and the bomb bay.
