Clayton C. Kammerer graduated from Electrical High School and was a chauffeur.

He and his brother, Paul enlisted on 17 June 1941 at Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Paul was serving in Tunisia and Italy and was wounded in action twice.

The aircraft was attacked on the way to the target by a German fighter near Dunkirk and took direct hits in #4 engine and the bomb bay.
